Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Spend the day relaxing and preparing for the adventure ahead. You’ll meet your guide for a pre-trek briefing and ensure all your gear is ready for the journey up Mount Kilimanjaro.
Your trek begins at Machame Gate, where the trail leads through lush rainforest. Enjoy the sights and sounds of this vibrant environment as you ascend. The trail may be muddy and slippery, so trekking poles and gaiters are helpful. After six hours, you’ll reach Machame Camp to rest for the night.
Depart Machame Camp and continue on a rocky path. The trail opens up into moorland, offering panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s peaks. The shorter distance allows for steady acclimatization. After 6–7 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Shira Cave Camp to relax and enjoy the evening.
Today’s journey is challenging but rewarding. You’ll trek through semi-desert terrain, reaching higher altitudes for acclimatization. Pass the iconic Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp. This picturesque spot, surrounded by towering cliffs, is a perfect place to rest after a full day of trekking.
